     • Charlie Adelson, the Fort Lauderdale dentist long suspected in the plot to kill Florida State law professor Dan Markel nearly a decade ago, has been found guilty of his murder.The 12-person jury returned a guilty verdict Monday, Nov. 6, 2023, in Adelson’s trial at the Leon County Courthouse. He could spend the rest of his life behind bars.During the eight-day trial, prosecutors painted Adelson as a wealthy and arrogant “playboy” who thought he was smart enough to get away with murder. According to the state, Adelson wanted Markel out of the way to end a bitter child custody fight with his ex-wife, Wendi Adelson, the defendant’s younger sister.

       We will be live streaming the entire trial right here!Dan Markel was murdered in July of 2014. It took investigators almost two years to follow the evidence and to identify the suspects. By 2016, there were two suspects who carried out the hit – Luis Rivera and shooter Sigfredo Garcia. Luis was in federal prison on unrelated charges. Investigators determined that the murder was connected to Dan Markel’s divorce, and suspected that one or more people in his ex-wife’s family ordered the hit. So the FBI, together with the Tallahassee Police Department, conducted an operation – a “Bump” – to get the “roaches” to talk. Since then, Katherine Magbanua and, more recently, Charles Adelson, have been charged. No charges have been filed against Donna Adelson, although she remains a suspect, or against Dan’s ex, Wendi Adelson, who also was named a suspect in a Court Filing by the prosecution. Katherine Magbanua was convicted last year.
