We are deep into November and it is time to start doing those things that makes this season of the year so very special for so many people.

Diwali

Lated, Belated, Happy Diwali to my Hindu friends.

What is Diwali ?

Diwali is the festival of lights.

It symbolises the spiritual “victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance“.

ThanksGiving

Thanksgiving is about a fortnight away.

December is Christmas.

Angel Tree, for me, is how I celebrate Christmas.

Making Calls

Opening Up

Getting out of my own way.  Opening up the shell that I am.

That is what I have to do when it comes to making phone calls to families.

Getting to meet their caretakers.

Saying Hello

One of the people I met is the happiest, friendliest girl in the world.

I called her mum and she and I were going over the gift, she said to me, I am going to go pick her up now.

When she got in the car, she inquired of her mother, who are you talking to, the mother did not respond.

And, so she took it upon herself.

Shouting across the phone, “Say Hello, if you love me“.

And, yes I fell in love hearing the Hello gush across the phone.

How easy it is to show love for her.

Just Say Hello.

Foster

Relationship is tagged Foster Parent.

Actually Foster Parents to twin girls.

Mother is away.

I knew it was going to be a special interaction and so I made sure it was going to be the last call before family dinner outing set for Sunday Nights.

I called her and started reading out my script.

My name is ___. I am calling from __.  Each year we do Angel Tree.

She said No, I am not interested.

I said please don’t rush me off the phone. I am here to give you something. Not take from you.

I said I know you are parenting twin girls; and we will like to help a bit this Christmas.

I have been in need 2.

And, God sent someone to save and rescue me.

In Service

In Service, One Finds God’s Pottery

Rarely does one find God’s love in a Sermon.

But, in the preparation leading up to the service.

There is a young man who comes around and collects the names of Sunday School attendees.

This morning he came by as I was writing up the Angels.

He said to me do you want your sign up book Now.  I said No.

But, he hung around and came back a few times.

Paying attention.

You can see and sense his love for God, God’s people, and the things done in his name.

The Samuels of the world.

Having watched his grandparents and Aunts pour themselves in to that same pottery, God’s voice is familiar by now.

He set the first Angels up on the lithe Christmas Tree this year.
