I am catching up on Francis Chan’s message during the recent “Altar Conference” in Fresno, California.

In your struggle against sin, you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding your blood. And have you completely forgotten this word of encouragement that addresses you as a father addresses his son? It says,

“My son, do not make light of the Lord’s discipline,
and do not lose heart when he rebukes you,
because the Lord disciplines the one he loves,
and he chastens everyone he accepts as his son.”

    • It is the Father speaking to a Son

Clear Word

Background

I like the fact that life happens and there are spiritual verses that we can use to reason through it.

I am hoping that this is a testimonial post.

4 months or so ago, I was laying down after a hard day’s work and one of my wife’s cousin was going to call as were scheduled to have a phone conversation.

I did not know how to handle and manage that conversation.

It is not always easy been a champion of people; being an encourager.

And, so I was meandering.

But, then I again looked at the list of hits on our blog site and saw someone had clicked on one of Ravi Zachariah’s video.

I watched along, as well.

Less than a few minutes in, God’s word leapt to me.

Speak the truth to this person; no fluffs nothing.

Apologist

For a time there I took in all apologists that I could chew on.

My short list included :-

  2. Biola University
    • J.P. Moreland

But, lately, I am far more in to God’s presence ( Damon Thompson ) and Spiritual Warfare.

And, so I was surprised that when needing emotional clarity on how to speak to my wife’s cousin, God did not under girdle it with one of Damon Thompson’s words.

But, a straight up word from Ravi.

The words was get yourself together, tighten up your mind, and I, God, got this.

As an aside, Damon Thompson has spoken about taken in all of Apologetics that he could get his hands, on as well.

 

Wife’s Cousin Clear Word

She confessed where she was lacking.

My time with Stephen Ministry meant me not having to have her say more.

God’s ministry is not what we get, it is what we allow him to give.

It is proportional to that person’s faith, preparedness, and space they have created from the silly things and associations in life.

 

Outline

Family, we have to be cognizant and have internal honest conversations.

The list should include :-

  1. Promises
    • What promises are we back peddling on
  2. Traps
    • What traps are we setting for others
    • And, not realize that we are caught in the same trap
      • If you set a trap for others, you will get caught in it yourself ( Proverbs 26:27 )
  3. What is in it for me?
    • While in college, my college room-mate got in the habit of calling his uncle and asking for money
    • Finally, he realized that his uncle always switches things around and says I was just going to call your myself

 

Personal Take

I was involved in a good and long conversation this week.

He shared with me his take on why we have fallen leadership.

Again, Ravi Zacharias’s word bailed me out.

When one has a life of dissonance, eventually it will fall aside and apart.

Yes, there is incompetency.

But, also there is a life where people hold to failings and seek political advantages.

It takes a clear word from God and the gift of discernment to see through falsehoods.

Of course, we all need words of wisdom, words of knowledge.

These things are used to build communities; interconnect us through gifting.

They are used to reveal falsehood among brethren.

How ?

Bro, how can God use you, when he can not get a clear word out of you.

Cup of Cold Water

Background

I tuned in to a pastor the other day.

He tried to explain his position through scripture.

 

Cup of Cold Water

And whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward.
( Matthew 10:42 )

Indeed, if anyone gives you even a cup of water because you bear the name of Christ, truly I tell you, he will never lose his reward.
( Mark 9:41 )

Kindness to the poor is a loan to the LORD, and He will repay the lender.
( Proverbs 19:17 )

Cast your bread upon the waters, for after many days you will find it again.
( Ecclesiastes 11:1 )

For God is not unjust. He will not forget your work and the love you have shown for His name as you have ministered to the saints and continue to do so.
( Hebrews 6:10 )

It is a Shame

It is a shame that we start off with a position and look for scripture to back it up.

Thanks goodness, Jesus never started with a position and defended it through scripture legalism.

 

Personal To me

May be it is just me.

But, there are some positions that are not worth looking for scripture to defend.

Many have been led astray in that endeavor.

I will leave it as that.

Background

There is a video I placed on YouTube and someone placed a comment that reads :-

Classic example of someone allegorizing every text that they happen to use in a sermon…. that’s not how the Bible was written. Big problem here

My Quick Take

Personally it hurts me that whenever someone tries to help others, those more learned,  see to jump in and critique that person without doing the following.

Points

  1. Specifics
    • Narrowly pinpointing what they have an offense with
    • Specifically help and say how they can do better
  2. Submit
    • Submit to Leadership
      • We all have to be consecrated
      • And, be under some kind of leadership
  3. Struggle
    • Struggle with things, especially when we feel the Spirit is saying otherwise
      • Be minimal, so to speak, and not be flippant.
        Say what the Spirit Said and say “No more, no Less
  4. Seek
    • Seek each other out
    • And, advice in private
    • Modern era through social media provides various ways to seek each other out.  And in the interest of time, be very specific as to where we think the other person might have erred
  5. Understand we are called to various demographics
    • What appeals to demographics is not always intersected
    • Why will God need me, when the other says everything the way I would have said it
    • It is one thing to speak in error
    • Yet another to appeal to various senses and culture
  6. Work Harder
    • I will say work harder, if you are so offended by what someone is teaching
    • Provide contrasting materials and view points
      • So that others can hear
      • And, the person who is wrong can be convicted

Conclusion

We claim we are speaking for God here.  And, not for ourselves.

Angel Tree – 2018 – Chapter 02

Prelude

Yesterday, Friday, was a good day.  Experienced an unusual intimacy.

Intercessory Prayer

An answered call

A I reviewed our list of Angels, I came across a family with two boys.  I called their grandmother to crosscheck whether the gifts have in fact been delivered.

But, unfortunately she was not reachable.

I thus called the alternate phone we have for another family member; one of the grandmother’s daughters. She confirmed that she has not been able to reach the grandmother, but that she will let her know that we were trying to reach her.

Arranged Meeting

Upon getting home that evening, though late, I made the call and the daughter said her mother was with her and that I could bring the gifts to her place.

Made it over

Made it over with a guilt due to the lateness of the hour.  But, they welcomed me in to their home.

Emptying

The emptied themselves and spoke openly of generational roots :-

  1. Grandmother’s pain
    • Losing a daughter to violence
    • And, losing her son to the criminal justice system
    • Having to give her two grandchildren up because she lacked the strength to care for them
  2. Grandmother’s coping mechanism
    • With sorrow of bereavement and age how the tools to manage are been taxed

 

At a place

It is a place that I have been before.

God can only use someone who has had to empty himself.

Ambiguity of our compartmentalize lives sometimes absolves and withholds God.

Permission to Pray

I asked whether we can pray and they said a clear YES.

Made sure to get permission and focus on what we can pray on.

And, we went in and prayed for each other.

I asked whether they were open to praying in Spirits and they affirmed.

One of their children came into the middle of the circle.

 

Faithfulness of God

The faithfulness of God calls us to :-

  1. Keep a good account of our sins and confess them
    • Proverbs 18:21
      • Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

    • Job 11
      • 13 If thou set thy heart aright,
        And stretch out thy hands toward him;
        14 If iniquity be in thy hand, put it far away,
        And let not unrighteousness dwell in thy tents.

        Though there be darkness, it shall be as the morning.

Reading

Let us read into the pretext a bit.

Paul is making a point of saying the following :-

  1. Uniformity in teaching is paramount
  2. What we hear and how we judge those words should reflect the rigor and essentials of the read and preached word
  3. Baptism is unto Jesus and not unto the preacher/teacher
  4. Trying to play the number game via baptismal should likely not be a motivation

2:42-47 In these verses we have the history of the truly primitive church, of the first days of it; its state of infancy indeed, but, like that, the state of its greatest innocence. They kept close to holy ordinances, and abounded in piety and devotion; for Christianity, when admitted in the power of it, will dispose the soul to communion with God in all those ways wherein he has appointed us to meet him, and has promised to meet us. The greatness of the event raised them above the world, and the Holy Ghost filled them with such love, as made every one to be to another as to himself, and so made all things common, not by destroying property, but doing away selfishness, and causing charity. And God who moved them to it, knew that they were quickly to be driven from their possessions in Judea. The Lord, from day to day, inclined the hearts of more to embrace the gospel; not merely professors, but such as were actually brought into a state of acceptance with God, being made partakers of regenerating grace. Those whom God has designed for eternal salvation, shall be effectually brought to Christ, till the earth is filled with the knowledge of his glory.
