Kenneka Jenkins and Young African American Womanhood

Preface

I think it was Monday morning through Google News that I first became aware of the Kenneka Jenkins story.

Desperation

At face value there seems to be quite a bit lost in translating those early hours of “Innocence Lost” into community participation.

What does one do when a young adult goes missing.

Once someone is 18 they pretty much have a right to self determination.  They can simple say and do their Yeses and Noes.

They can stay gone and missing for a few days.

As I read it her mother woke up and went to the Hotel and asked for help once contacted by her friends and told they could not find her.

It appears she was told by the Hotel Clerks that can only do so much until she files a “Missing Person” report.

Womanhood

You could tell the mother loves her.

One could tell her Sister loves her.

I think there was a young man that stood with her mother, as well.

Sometimes during adolescence we try so very hard at holding on to those who love us.

But, more so, at navigating towards our own Identity and the Yeses that come within that.

Seemingly, it is the price of Womanhood.

How things look and how they are

Hair done, nails nailed

Face prettied, gowns worn

From the look of things sure and ready for anything

But, at nineteen she hardly knows the glasses and mirrors that covers the pond

Just because a river welcomes and receives sunlight does not mean it forever stood idly by

There is often so much washed in and washed away

Safe

It was a girlfriend’s birthday
And, so not much should go wrong
Take Mama’s Car
Check in and stay indoors with friends
Come back home to waiting family

Bitterness

The Psalmist wrote …

The heart knoweth his own bitterness; and a stranger doth not intermeddle with his joy

Time

Each time has its own stories, fables, and myths
Ours is just too much to keep to self
Sharing is caring
And, so I am thinking I will beam it on Facebook
Some come to watch, others to celebrate, and yet others to mourn

There is a little bit for everyone
Items for sale, yet they could be had for free

Weasel

Weasel away time
Weaseling away time, like we could have it back
Whistling away life
Like we could whistle the Spirit back in it

Courage

Mistakenly uncaring-ness for courage
Mistaken “Made up mind” for ineptness
Pride in “Standing our grounds” like it always been ours
A generation here, a generation there
It could go either way

War Within

In the middle of a chess game
Pieces always moving

Wale – Family Affair
Link
You see I gotta go to war

You too young and you don’t know what I’m fightin’ for
This is my Vietnam
You are my strength
And the reason that I’m going

You fooled me into thinking it was my turn
You fooled me into thinking half the table was mine
While you knew all along the table was a bit slanted
And, I had few and fewer pieces on it

Morning

It looked like it took all day
Seemingly it took all night
But, come morning
None of the pieces was mine after all

….
….

Car and phone returned to mums

At the very least the ones who loves me knows not to keep calling

Debt

Like in the song “Wildflower” sang by “Color Me Badd
Sincerely it sings about how

always paying, for a debt she never owes

No one else would sign up to pay it
So it rests on her
By morning, hopefully it had been fully paid
And, her Spirit can yield, and float featherless and wingless having yielded the weight of life

Between the Lines

Chuck Missler likes to say “the only barrier to the truth is assuming you have it“.

We steadily thinking we know and calling out our enemies.

But, Wallahi, yet sometimes things be more complicated.

See who is satisfied with you fucking up.

See who holds on to his best and shares your worst with the world

The worst in others is the easiest to share

Yea, Squeezed

Yea, finally here I am

Into the little refrigerator

Tried so hard

Trying so hard to create spaces between unbalanced relationships

Having to miss mine and others familiar habits

Out from getting squeezed and trapped in my past

Doing too much from ‘ving to be counted and forever pictured into my forever nightmare

Spirits

Spirits are beings and people too.

The Devil reads spirits.

Sign up to do same

Have quiet come to God moments and interludes

It takes time and getting used to

But, it is part of LIFE

And, what God wants to give you

See you in a Bit

Didn’t say bye as she is quiet not
But, hovers over, watching who say what
Who confessed to what
Who came by to say and face Final Respect

Care

Kenneka, caring is the least we can do.
Though the world seems a little hardened after all that has happened, and is happening
Yet centuries ago, to steady our feets, someone muttered:

two sparrows going for a penny, yet not one of them falls to the ground outside of our father’s care“.

Burdenless Christianity

Testimony

As an addendum, it pains me to see the extent that Christian leaders go to rid their congregations of pain for the lost and burden for those losing in so many facets of society.

We prepare carefully and lawyerly worded coded messages.

Ways

You say tell me in what ways:

  1. Abortion
    • Run to Washington for Pro-Life legislation
    • Leave out the message of Adoption
  2. Sexual Preferences
    • We take the place of the Holy Spirit and preach to each other, rather than those who we are supposedly trying to reach
  3. Prosperity Gospel
    • Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal ( Matthew 6:19 )
    • Do not weary yourself to gain wealth, Cease from your consideration of it. ( Proverbs 23:4 )
    • This is how it will be for anyone who stores up treasure for himself but is not rich toward God. ( Luke 12:21 )
    • Those who want to be rich, however, fall into temptation and become ensnared by many foolish and harmful desires that plunge them into ruin and destruction. ( 1 Timothy 6:9 )
    • Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business, and make a profit.”
You do not even know what will happen tomorrow! What is your life? ( James 4:13 )
  4. Love & Fear ?
    • There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.
We love him, because he first loved us.
If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?
And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also.
      ( 1 John 4:18-21 )
  5. Brotherly Love
    • If anyone with earthly possessions sees his brother in need, but withholds his compassion from him, how can the love of God abide in him? ( 1 John 3:17 )
  6. Hypocrites
    • Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You traverse land and sea to win a single convert, and when he becomes one, you make him twice as much a son of hell as you are. ( Matthew 23:15)
  7. Apostolic Authority
    • Such people should consider that what we are in our letters when absent, we will be in our actions when present.
We do not dare to classify or compare ourselves with some who commend themselves. When they measure themselves by themselves and compare themselves with themselves, they show their ignorance.
We, however, will not boast beyond our limits, but only within the field of influence that God has assigned to us—a field that reaches even to you.… ( 2 Corinthians 10:12 )
  8. Righteousness
    • For I tell you that unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. ( Matthew 5:20 )
  9. Borrower
    • Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you. ( Matthew 5:42 )
  10. Prosecution
    • Hear the word of the LORD, you who tremble at His word: “Your brothers who hate you, who exclude you for My name’s sake, Have said, ‘Let the LORD be glorified, that we may see your joy.’ But they will be put to shame. ( Isaiah 66:5 )
  11. Community
    • Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching. ( Hebrews 10:25  )

That which is hidden

Therefore judge nothing before the proper time; wait until the Lord comes.
He will bring to light what is hidden in darkness and will expose the motives of men’s hearts.
At that time each will receive his praise from God. ( 1 Corinthians 4:5 ).

Old Testament

I know it is customarily these days to say we only follow the New Testament and so the Mosaic Law is done away with; including these ones…

Laws of Social Responsibility

If you lend money to My people, to the poor among you, you are not to act as a creditor to him; you shall not charge him interest.
If you ever take your neighbor’s cloak as a pledge, you are to return it to him before the sun sets,
for that is his only covering; it is his cloak for his body. What else shall he sleep in?
And it shall come about that when he cries out to Me, I will hear him, for I am gracious.…
( Exodus 22:25-27 )

Pained

Again, what are we pained by? Our adherence to Laws & Regulations.

We confuse the great commision with the great omission.

Forsook that the Love of God is what Leads to repentance, we argue that it is our Preaching, our Laws, our resoluteness.

Loving God

The Greatest Commandment

Deuteronomy 6:5

“Hear, O Israel! The LORD is our God, the LORD is one! “You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.
“These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart.

Matthew 22:37

…“Teacher, which commandment is the greatest in the Law?”
Jesus declared, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.'”

Again, when one makes an argument one way or the other, those who are wise ought to be able and free to ask which tools of the being played a role in arriving at that decision.

Is it Love, Soul, Might, Mind…

Sola Scriptura

We deride gifts including Love and claim Scripture Only, Sola Scriptura.

What did Jesus die for? And, what are we dying for.

We skim over the fact that you do not have a word, if you do not have a burden.

Apologetics is good, but what are we arguing over.

Paul Wrote:

But reject foolish and ignorant speculation, for you know that it breeds quarreling.
And a servant of the Lord must not be quarrelsome, but he must be kind to everyone, able to teach, and forbearing.
( 2 Timothy 2:23 )

I am sure that Paul had another word in mind, but thankfully the Holy Spirit got a bit ahead of him, and insisted on kindness first.

Leadership

Teaching?

  1. Old Testament
    • Therefore I said, Surely these are poor; they are foolish: for they know not the way of the LORD, nor the judgment of their God. ( Jeremiah 5:4 )
  2. New Testament
    • “You are Israel’s teacher,” said Jesus, “and do you not understand these things? ( John 3:10 )

Using words from one of my teachers:

  1. I am waiting for God to go through the Church, and say you are not a Christian, you are are not a Christian
  2. Pushing people down, because we have no authority to raise them up

Prophecy?

Some of these teachers do not have a word outside of Doomsday prophecy; that which is already being written thousands of years ago.

And, yet they refresh and repackage it as a new word.

  1. Spirit
    • When the Spirit of God says do not fear, they say yes fear
    • When the Spirit do not worry how to respond as “The Spirit will give you words“, they take over
  2. Quietness
    • But you, Daniel, roll up and seal the words of the scroll until the time of the end. Many will go here and there to increase knowledge. ( Daniel 12:4 )
    • And when the seven thunders had uttered their voices, I was about to write: and I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Seal up those things which the seven thunders uttered, and write them not. ( Revelations 10:4 )

Rabbi?

  1. Scribes and Pharisees
    • Love the greetings in the marketplaces, and the title of “Rabbi” by which they are addressed.
But you are not to be called “Rabbi,” for you have one Teacher, and you are all brothers.
      ( Matthew 23:8 )

Prayer

I pray that we do not love “the praise of men more than the praise of God“.

Proverbs 30

Proverbs 30:1-5
Who has ascended to heaven and come down?
Who has gathered the wind in his fists?
Who has wrapped up the waters in a garment?
Who has established all the ends of the earth?
What is his name, and what is his son’s name?
Surely you know!
Every word of God proves true;
he is a shield to those who take refuge in him.
Do not add to his words,
lest he rebuke you and you be found a liar.

Proverbs 30:12-16

There are those who are clean in their own eyes
but are not washed of their filth.

There are those—how lofty are their eyes,
how high their eyelids lift!

There are those whose teeth are swords,
whose fangs are knives,
to devour the poor from off the earth,
the needy from among mankind.

The leech has two daughters:
Give and Give.
Three things are never satisfied;
four never say, “Enough”:
Sheol, the barren womb,
the land never satisfied with water,
and the fire that never says, “Enough.”

Isaiah 42

The Reign of the Lord’s Anointed

Why do the nations rage

and the peoples plot in vain?

The kings of the earth set themselves,

and the rulers take counsel together,

against the Lord and against his Anointed, saying,

“Let us burst their bonds apart

and cast away their cords from us.”

He who sits in the heavens laughs;

the Lord holds them in derision.

Then he will speak to them in his wrath,

and terrify them in his fury, saying,

As for me, I have set my King

on Zion, my holy hill.”

I will tell of the decree:

The Lord said to me, “You are my Son

today I have begotten you…

Ask of me, and I will make the nations your heritage,

and the ends of the earth your possession…”

The Lord’s Chosen Servant
Behold my servant, whom I uphold,
my chosen, in whom my soul delights;

I have put my Spirit upon him;
he will bring forth justice to the nations.

He will not cry aloud or lift up his voice,
or make it heard in the street;
a bruised reed he will not break,
and a faintly burning wick he will not quench;
he will faithfully bring forth justice.

He will not grow faint or be discouraged
till he has established justice in the earth;
and the coastlands wait for his law.

…..
….

who gives breath to the people on it
and spirit to those who walk in it:
I am the Lord; I have called you in righteousness;
I will take you by the hand and keep you;
I will give you as a covenant for the people,
a light for the nations,
to open the eyes that are blind,
to bring out the prisoners from the dungeon,
from the prison those who sit in darkness.
I am the Lord; that is my name;
my glory I give to no other,
nor my praise to carved idols.
Behold, the former things have come to pass,
and new things I now declare;
before they spring forth
I tell you of them.”

John 15:1

I Am the True Vine
I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser.
Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit.
Already you are clean because of the word that I have spoken to you.
Abide in me, and I in you.
As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me.

I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.
If anyone does not abide in me he is thrown away like a branch and withers; and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned.
If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.
By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples.
As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you.
Abide in my love.
If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love.
These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full.
