Jesus & Paul – Turning over to Satan

Jesus

Verses

Matthew 5:37 ( Link )

All you need to say is simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’; anything beyond this comes from the evil one.

Paul

Verses

1 Timothy 1:20 ( Link )

…holding on to faith and a good conscience, which some have rejected and thereby shipwrecked their faith.

Among them are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I have handed over to Satan to be taught not to blaspheme.

1 Corinthians 5:5 ( Link )

…When you are gathered in the name of our Lord Jesus…., hand this man over to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, so that his spirit may be saved on the day of the Lord.

Your boasting is not good

Job 39:9-12 ( Wild ox )

9 Will the wild ox agree to be your slave,
or will it spend the night in your crib?

10 Can you bind it with a rope to a plowed row;
will it plow the valley behind you?

11 Will you trust it because its strength is great
so that you can leave your work to it?

12 Can you rely on it to bring back your grain
to gather into your threshing floor?

Ruth 3:2-4

Now is not Boaz our kinsman, with whose maids you were?

Behold, he winnows barley at the threshing floor tonight.

Wash yourself therefore, and anoint yourself and put on your best clothes, and go

down to the threshing floor; but do not make yourself known to the man until he has

finished eating and drinking.

It shall be when he lies down, that you shall notice the place where he lies, and you

shall go and uncover his feet and lie down; then he will tell you what you shall do.

2 Samuel 24:16-25

When the angel stretched out his hand toward Jerusalem to destroy it, the LORD

relented from the calamity and said to the angel who destroyed the people, “It is

enough! Now relax your hand!”

And the angel of the LORD was by the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite.

Then David spoke to the LORD when he saw the angel who was striking down the

people, and said,

Behold, it is I who have sinned, and it is I who have done wrong; but these sheep,

what have they done?

Please let Your hand be against me and against my father’s house.”

So Gad came to David that day and said to him,

“Go up, erect an altar to the LORD on the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite.

Short Closing

Of course there is a lot more.

But, wanted for each of us to continue to pray for our loved ones.

Consecrate ourselves to God as the Lord of his Threshing Floor.

Cup of Cold Water

Background

I tuned in to a pastor the other day.

He tried to explain his position through scripture.

Cup of Cold Water

And whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward.
( Matthew 10:42 )

Indeed, if anyone gives you even a cup of water because you bear the name of Christ, truly I tell you, he will never lose his reward.
( Mark 9:41 )

Kindness to the poor is a loan to the LORD, and He will repay the lender.
( Proverbs 19:17 )

Cast your bread upon the waters, for after many days you will find it again.
( Ecclesiastes 11:1 )

For God is not unjust. He will not forget your work and the love you have shown for His name as you have ministered to the saints and continue to do so.
( Hebrews 6:10 )

It is a Shame

It is a shame that we start off with a position and look for scripture to back it up.

Thanks Goodness

Thanks goodness, Jesus never started with a position and defended it through scripture legalism.

Personal To me

May be it is just me.

But, there are some positions that are not worth looking for scripture to defend.

Many have been led astray in that endeavor.

I will leave it as that.

Gospel

It seems pleasant that the inspired word should have the last breath :-

Galatians 2:6-10

Link

6 But of these who seemed to be somewhat, (whatsoever they were, it maketh no matter to me: God accepteth no man’s person:) for they who seemed to be somewhat in conference added nothing to me:

7 But contrariwise, when they saw that the gospel of the uncircumcision was committed unto me, as the gospel of the circumcision was unto Peter;

8 (For he that wrought effectually in Peter to the apostleship of the circumcision, the same was mighty in me toward the Gentiles)

9 And when James, Cephas, and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that was given unto me, they gave to me and Barnabas the right hands of fellowship; that we should go unto the heathen, and they unto the circumcision.

10 Only they would that we should remember the poor; the same which I also was forward to do.

      • KJV [ Link ]
        17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
    • Luke 9:2

    • Romans 15:18-19

18 I will not venture to speak of anything except what Christ has accomplished through me in leading the Gentiles to obey God by what I have said and done— 19 by the power of signs and wonders, through the power of the Spirit of God. So from Jerusalem all the way around to Illyricum, I have fully proclaimed the gospel of Christ.

  4. We gonna talk about, we are going to teach about, and God we want your demonstration to be here tonight
  5. There are 3 levels of Apostolic Authority we see in the New Testament
    • Waiting
      • People who have yet to receive
        • Acts 1:4-5
          • Acts 1:4-5 King James Version (KJV) [ Link ]
4 And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.5 For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.
        • Acts 8:15-16
          • 15 When they arrived, they prayed for the new believers there that they might receive the Holy Spirit, 16 because the Holy Spirit had not yet come on any of them; they had simply been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
    • Laying on of Hands
      • Acts 8:14-16
        • 14 When the apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had accepted the word of God, they sent Peter and John to Samaria. 15 When they arrived, they prayed for the new believers there that they might receive the Holy Spirit, 16 because the Holy Spirit had not yet come on any of them; they had simply been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 17 Then Peter and John placed their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.18 When Simon saw that the Spirit was given at the laying on of the apostles’ hands, he offered them money 19 and said, “Give me also this ability so that everyone on whom I lay my hands may receive the Holy Spirit.”20 Peter answered: “May your money perish with you, because you thought you could buy the gift of God with money! 21 You have no part or share in this ministry, because your heart is not right before God.22 Repent of this wickedness and pray to the Lord in the hope that he may forgive you for having such a thought in your heart. 23 For I see that you are full of bitterness and captive to sin.24 Then Simon answered, “Pray to the Lord for me so that nothing you have said may happen to me.25 After they had further proclaimed the word of the Lord and testified about Jesus, Peter and John returned to Jerusalem, preaching the gospel in many Samaritan villages.
    • Preached Word
      • Romans 10:17
        • 16 But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed our report?” 17 So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
      • Acts 10:44-46
        • KJV ( Link )
          • 44 While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit came on all who heard the message. 45 The circumcised believers who had come with Peter were astonished that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on Gentiles. 46 For they heard them speaking in tongues and praising God.
      • Matthew 8:7-10
        • KJV ( Link )
          • 7 Jesus said to him, “Shall I come and heal him?”
8 The centurion replied, “Lord, I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed. 9 For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and that one, ‘Come,’ and he comes. I say to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”
10 When Jesus heard this, he was amazed and said to those following him, “Truly I tell you, I have not found anyone in Israel with such great faith.

It is Time For An Outpouring

  1. Repent
    • You must repent
    • You must repent as I can not do it for you
    • I am not a priest
      • And, I don’t have that power

Do not exceed what is written ( 1st Corinthians 4:6 )

1st Corinthians 4:6

Now, brothers and sisters, I have applied these things to myself and Apollos for your benefit, so that you may learn from us the meaning of the saying, “Do not go beyond what is written.” Then you will not be puffed up in being a follower of one of us over against the other.

Pretext

Here is the pretext :-

1 Corinthians 10:16
Link ( KJV )

  • Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.
  • For it hath been declared unto me of you, my brethren, by them which are of the house of Chloe, that there are contentions among you.
  • Now this I say, that every one of you saith, I am of Paul; and I of Apollos; and I of Cephas; and I of Christ.
  • Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul?
  • I thank God that I baptized none of you, but Crispus and Gaius;
  • Lest any should say that I had baptized in mine own name.
  • And I baptized also the household of Stephanas: besides, I know not whether I baptized any other.

Reading

Let us read into the pretext a bit.

Paul is making a point of saying the following :-

  1. Uniformity in teaching is paramount
  2. What we hear and how we judge those words should reflect the rigor and essentials of the read and preached word
  3. Baptism is unto Jesus and not unto the preacher/teacher
  4. Trying to play the number game via baptismal should likely not be a motivation

Bible Verses

  8. 2 John
    • Anyone who runs ahead and does not continue in the teaching of Christ does not have God; whoever continues in the teaching has both the Father and the Son. 9. Titus
    • Teaching Sound Doctrine
      • But as for you, speak the things that are consistent with sound doctrine. Older men are to be temperate, dignified, self-controlled, and sound in faith, love, and perseverance.

  10. 2 Corinthians

In Closing

I really like Matthew Henry’s commentary on Acts 2:42-47 …
Link

2:42-47 In these verses we have the history of the truly primitive church, of the first days of it; its state of infancy indeed, but, like that, the state of its greatest innocence. They kept close to holy ordinances, and abounded in piety and devotion; for Christianity, when admitted in the power of it, will dispose the soul to communion with God in all those ways wherein he has appointed us to meet him, and has promised to meet us. The greatness of the event raised them above the world, and the Holy Ghost filled them with such love, as made every one to be to another as to himself, and so made all things common, not by destroying property, but doing away selfishness, and causing charity. And God who moved them to it, knew that they were quickly to be driven from their possessions in Judea. The Lord, from day to day, inclined the hearts of more to embrace the gospel; not merely professors, but such as were actually brought into a state of acceptance with God, being made partakers of regenerating grace. Those whom God has designed for eternal salvation, shall be effectually brought to Christ, till the earth is filled with the knowledge of his glory.

God’s Call of Women ( New Testament)

Foundational

Abigail Adams wrote to her husband, John Adams, while he was off with the men writing the Constitution, “Remember the Ladies, and be more generous and favorable to them than your ancestors.” What if he’d listened to her, and women had been made citizens at that time?

Background

The Church is referred to as the bride of Christ.

Within that proclamation it follows that God created an outsize role for women in his embryonic church.

Ministry Work

God

As God prepared Adam for ministerial duties :-

Genesis 2:24-25
Link

18 And the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.

24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.

25 And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.

It is upon being sent out that we find our need for mates and partnerships.

We see our limitation and insufficiency, our nakedness so to speak, yet we are not ashamed.

Jesus

Matthew 19:4-8
Link

“Haven’t you read,” he replied, “that at the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female,’

and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh’?

So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.”

Jesus replied, “Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because your hearts were hard. But it was not this way from the beginning”

It appears that Jesus is arguing that God’s original intent is for unity, but that the hardness in our heart gets in the way.
