13 Like the cold of snow in the time of harvest is a trustworthy messenger to those who send him; he refreshes the soul of his masters.
 

14 Like clouds and wind without rain is the man who boasts of gifts never given.
 

 

Teaching

Proverbs 25:13

13 Like the cold of snow in the time of harvest is a trustworthy messenger to those who send him; he refreshes the soul of his masters.

Unpack

  1. There are seasons
  2. Touched on here is a time of harvest
  3. King Solomon commends a special someone
  4. A King commends a messenger
  5. King Solomon says if a messenger is trustworthy, the soul of his master is refreshed

 

Proverbs 25:14

14 Like clouds and wind without rain is the man who boasts of gifts never given

Unpack

  1. King Solomon stays outside
  2. But, this time, he reverses his discourse
  3. He speaks of a man who boasts of gifts never given
  4. Linguistically, he is precise
    • He does not say the man did not receive the gift
    • He does not say the man misappropriated the gift
    • He says the gifts were never given in the first place
    • Yet, the man is abroad boasting of those same gifts
