Gossip is not just the sin of speaking. It’s the greater sin of listening.

The last time I promised to hold on to something forever is:-

Please listen to my demo

EPMD – Please Listen To My Demo

EPMD – Erick & Parrish making dollars.

For the young ones, Erick Sermon & Parrish Smith.

Stupid boomin’ system with the hand-free phone
The dream gets better and I would like to go on
But I was brought back to reality by a toot of a horn
Smoke everywhere, oh just what we needed
A meeting at twelve, and the car overheated
Feelin’ real low, low enough to die
Holdin’ up traffic, on the FDR drive
We had to play ourselves, in the fresh dipped gear
E Double had to push while MD steered
There went our dreams, to cool with golden limos
And alls we kept sayin’ was please listen to my demo

    • This is some of the best storytelling in hip-hop. Two kids dreaming of success while driving a busted car, hustling to get heard by a record executive, all while looking at the bright lights and tall buildings of the big city. If you’ve ever been a broke kid and drove a hand me down car that stalled at a busy intersection, you can relate.

    • I remember back in ’89 when somebody gave me a cassette dub of “Unfinished Business”. I was listening to it in my Walkman leaving from high school going to work on the subway. When I got to song #5 ( this song ), I kept rewinding the tape listening to this song over and over again until I got to the gig. Ah, memories!

    • My uncle and step-father put me onto EPMD when I was a kid (like 13/14), and this is hands down one of my favorite tracks from them b/c it’s so relatable. I definitely know what it’s like to be hungry and on the come up, I still feel that way sometimes, and this song captures it PERFECTLY!
