Curses:- Are Curses The Cause?

Background

As one lives life, there are certain things each of us run into and we or sometimes others wonder whether the issues are rooted in curses.

Instruments

Let us identify some of the toolings that each of us can use to identify whether the cause is a curse.

Outline

  1. Lies
  2. Thievery
  3. Sexual Immorality
  4. Broken Vows
  5. Not Bearing Fruit
  6. Priestly
  7. Worship & Mission

Lies

Those who peddle in lies are under a curse.

Scripture

  1. John 8:44 – The Children of the Devil ( Link )
    • 44 You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out his desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, refusing to uphold the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, because he is a liar and the father of lies.

Thievery

Those who steal are under a curse.

Scripture

  1. Proverbs 10:2 – Solomon’s Proverbs: The Wise Son ( Link )
    • 2 Treasures of wickedness profit nothing: but righteousness delivers from death.
  2. Exodus 22:7 – Property Laws ( Link )
    • 7 If anyone gives a neighbor silver or goods for safekeeping and they are stolen from the neighbor’s house, the thief, if caught, must pay back double.
  3. Leviticus 19:13 – Love Your Neighbor ( Link )
    • 13 You shall not defraud your neighbor, neither rob him: the wages of him that is hired shall not abide with you all night until the morning.

Sexual Immorality

Those who commit sexual immorality sow curses into their own lives.

Scripture

  1. 1st Corinthians 6:18 – The Temple of the Holy Spirit ( Link )
    • 17 But he who unites himself with the Lord is one with Him in spirit.
18 Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a man can commit is outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body.
      19 Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own;
20 you were bought at a price. Therefore glorify God with your body.

Broken Vows

Broken vows leads to brokeness.

You want to get God out of your live quick?

Here is one way break enough vows.

Make enough promises you know ahead you have no intent of keeping.

Scripture

  1. Malachi 2 – Judah’s Unfaithfulness ( Link )
    • 10 Do we not all have one Father? Did not one God create us? Why then do we break faith with one another so as to profane the covenant of our fathers?11 Judah has broken faith; an abomination has been committed in Israel and in Jerusalem. For Judah has profaned the LORD’s beloved sanctuary by marrying the daughter of a foreign god.12 As for the man who does this, may the LORD cut off from the tents of Jacob everyone who is awake and aware—even if he brings an offering to the LORD of Hosts.13 And this is another thing you do: You cover the altar of the LORD with tears, with weeping and groaning, because He no longer regards your offerings or receives them gladly from your hands.14 Yet you ask, “Why?”

It is because the LORD has been a witness between you and the wife of your youth, against whom you have broken faith, though she is your companion and your wife by covenant.

15 Has not the LORD made them one, having a portion of the Spirit? And why one? Because He seeks godly offspring. So guard yourselves in your spirit and do not break faith with the wife of your youth.

16 “For I hate divorce,” says the LORD, the God of Israel. “He who divorces his wife covers his garment with violence,” says the LORD of Hosts. So guard yourselves in your spirit and do not break faith.

17 You have wearied the LORD with your words; yet you ask, “How have we wearied Him?”

By saying, “All who do evil are good in the sight of the LORD, and in them He delights,” or, “Where is the God of justice?

Not Bearing Fruit

Those that have received life and truth from God, yet not attempted to reproduce, preserve, and share God’s life and truth bear a curse for disloyalty.

Scripture

  1. Matthew 2:18-19 – The Barren Fig Tree ( Link )
    • 18 In the morning, as Jesus was returning to the city, He was hungry
19 Seeing a fig tree by the road, He went up to it but found nothing on it except leaves. “ May you never bear fruit again!” He said. And immediately the tree withered.

Priestly

Curse for priestly failure.

Scripture

  1. Malachi 2:1-9 ( Link )
    • “And now this admonition is for you, O priests. If you do not listen, and if you do not set your heart to honor my name,” says the LORD Almighty, “I will send a curse upon you, and I will curse your blessings. Yes, I have already cursed them, because you have not set your heart to honor me. Because of you I will rebuke your descendants; I will spread on your faces the offal from your festival sacrifices, and you will be carried off with it. And you will know that I have sent you this admonition so that my covenant with Levi may continue,” says the LORD Almighty. “My covenant was with him, a covenant of life and peace, and I gave them to him; this called for reverence and he revered me and stood in awe of my name. True instruction was in his mouth and nothing false was found on his lips. He walked with me in peace and uprightness, and turned many from sin. For the lips of a priest ought to preserve knowledge, and from his mouth men should seek instruction—because he is the messenger of the LORD Almighty. But you have turned from the way and by your teaching have caused many to stumble; you have violated the covenant with Levi,” says the LORD Almighty. “So I have caused you to be despised and humiliated before all the people, because you have not followed my ways but have shown partiality in matters of the law.” (NIV)

Worship & Mission

Curse for not yielding to God’s call for worship & mission.

Scripture

  1. Haggai 1 ( Link )
    • 4 “Is it a time for you yourselves to live in your paneled houses, while this house lies in ruins?”5 Now this is what the LORD of Hosts says:“Consider carefully your ways.6 You have planted muchbut harvested little. You eat but never have enough. You drink but never have your fill. You put on clothes but never get warm. You earn wages to put into a bag pierced through.”7 This is what the LORD of Hosts says:“Consider carefully your ways.8 Go up into the hills, bring down lumber, and build the house,so that I may take pleasure in it and be glorified, says the LORD.9 You expected much,

but behold, it amounted to little.

And what you brought home, I blew away.

Why? declares the LORD of Hosts.

Because My house still lies in ruins,

while each of you is busy

      with his own house.

10 Therefore, on account of you

the heavens have withheld their dew

and the earth has withheld its crops.

      11 I have summoned a drought

on the fields and on the mountains,

on the grain, new wine, and oil,

and on whatever the ground yields,

      on man and beast,

and on all the labor of your hands.”
