Nouman Ali Khan:- 2022 – July

Introduction

We live in a time where preachers have so many agencies yet they are unable to get their listeners closer to God.

Here a preacher says give me your Sunday morning.

Bring the wife and the kids.

You oblige.

Yet you return home.

Unmoved towards God.

Less to talk towards Godly Living.

The preacher has the Torah/Pentateuch.

That is the 5 books of Moses, The Law.

He has the judges and the prophets.

The Gospel:- Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.

The Pauline Apostles.

Yet, he looks at it, studies it, and walks away empty handed and consequentially despondent for not having enough in there to preach on.

Nouman Ali Khan

Thankfully not so here.

Uphold Justice – Khutbah by Nouman Ali Khan

This khutbah was given at Islamic Center of Southlake on 7/8/2016.

The consequences of rampant injustice in a society are dire. Nouman Ali Khan points out in his discussion of ayat from Surat An-Nisaa and Al-Ma’eda that such injustice perpetuates the cycle of death and leads to more hatred, violence, crime and tension. On the contrary, as Allah describes, when just retribution is implemented without bias or double standards stemming from unrestricted love or hate, life happens. These are universal principles that appeal to the whole of humanity not just Muslims.

The only thing that distinguishes one Muslim from another, as Nouman Ali Khan teaches us in this khutbah, is their level of fear of Allah. In Aya 11 of Surah Al-Hujuraat, Allah says that we must never make others feel inferior to us, whether because of their race or the job they do. Ustadh Nouman reminds us of how Prophet Dawoud, who was one of the greatest rulers humanity has ever known, was honored by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) for eating from the toil of his own hands and how the Quran too honored him for his ability to shape metal. Despite the greatness of his kingdom, he was an ironsmith, and by dignifying him as such, Allah has dignified every kind of halal work as work in the path of Allah.

Prayer ( Dua )

How Duaa Works – Khutbah by Nouman Ali Khan

We have this common belief that when we make duaa, Allah will immediately solve our problem, otherwise He is not happy with us. In this khutbah, Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan teaches us that this can’t be further from the truth.

A simple look at the trials of all the messengers of Allah will prove it: Prophet Nuh made daawa for 950 years, but those closest to him never followed; Prophet Muhammad made duaa for his uncle, but Abu Lahab continued to fight him; and Prophet Yacoub cried so much over the loss of his son Youssef that he lost his eyesight.

The story of Maryam is another inspiring example. She was in such shock when the angel told her that she will have a child – to her this was the worst punishment – that she prayed to Allah that she would rather die than face humiliation in her community. As it turns out, the child who caused all that grief, Prophet Esa (AS), was the reason she is being honoured until today, hundreds of years later.

  1. Examples
    • Jacob ( Prophet Yacoub ) / Joseph ( Youssef )
      • Prayed each day over the loss of his son ( Joseph )
      • He cried so much he lost his eye sights
    • Moses ( Prophet Musa ) Mother
      • Made a basket to hold and carry her son
      • What makes you think that basket will not leak
      • what makes you think the basket is water proof
  2. What is Dua
    • It is in the act itself
    • It is you calling out
    • It is a petition
    • Slave
      • It is a humble, a slave of Allah, turning back to Allah begging for help
    • It is not Allah solving your problems
    • It is a simple request for help
    • That you turned around and asked for help is the goal at the end
    • Whether Allah will solve your problems immediately is a separate request
    • Sometimes you go through problems and you ask yourself, what is my fault in all these, why do I have to go through all these problems
  3. Purpose in Dua
    • Our Duas are the means we connect to Allah
    • Our Duas is not how Allah connects to us
    • It is how we connect to him
    • It is not how this world becomes Heaven
  4. Toils and Struggles
    • We created all human beings in toils and struggles
    • Struggle is a part of who we are
