On Monday, 2022-February-8th, Peter Thiel announced that he will be not be seeking re-election to the Meta/Facebook Board of Directors.

Mark Zuckerberg, Meta founder, and CEO said: “Peter has been a valuable member of our board and I’m deeply grateful for everything he has done for our company — from believing in us when few others would, to teaching me so many lessons about business, economics, and the world. Sean Parker the other Sean from Napster, the first Sean been Sean Fawning, was president of Facebook.

He introduced Peter Thiel to Mark Zuckerberg.

Peter Thiel invested $500,000 in 2004.

His investment made him the first significant outside investor.

At that junction, Facebook was spreading rapidly around college campuses.

Clearview AI

In 2019, Peter Thiel backed Clearview AI; a start-up company at the time.

Clearview AI scrapes internet profiles to create a facial recognition tool that can be used by law enforcement.

Facebook told the company to stop using its data.

In 2016, Peter Thiel funded the defamation lawsuit filed by wrestler Hulk Hogan against Gawker Media.

When Facebook’s first president, Sean Parker, first brought Thiel into the fold as an investor in 2004, he warned Zuckerberg against the financier’s “dirty tricks.”

But Zuckerberg said he found Thiel’s tactics inspiring, and would even use them to drive his friend and co-founder Eduardo Saverin out of Facebook the next year.

“I learned it from him,” Zuckerberg replied to Parker in an instant-message exchange.

“And I’ll do it to Eduardo.”
