Greater Glory and Holiness

Page Views

Damon Thompson is by far the Pastor that speaks to my Heart the dearest.

Early this morning, I reviewed page views, searches, and links followed on our blog and saw someone had clicked on one of Damon Thompson’s videos.

Run Ahead

The sermon he clicked on is “Run Ahead“.

BTW, that sermon is available here.

In that sermon, Damon used a line that is likely popular in evangelical circles.

It reads :-

The glory of this House will be greater than its past glory

Haggai 2:9

Did a google search and ended up at Prophet Haggai; specifically Haggai 2:19

Haggai 2:9-12 King James Version (KJV)

Verses

Link

The glory of this latter house shall be greater than of the former, saith the Lord of hosts: and in this place will I give peace, saith the Lord of hosts.

10 In the four and twentieth day of the ninth month, in the second year of Darius, came the word of the Lord by Haggai the prophet, saying,

11 Thus saith the Lord of hosts; Ask now the priests concerning the law, saying,

12 If one bear holy flesh in the skirt of his garment, and with his skirt do touch bread, or pottage, or wine, or oil, or any meat, shall it be holy? And the priests answered and said, No.

Quick Take

  1. Haggai 2:9
    • Glory of latter house greater than the former, sayest the Lord of Hosts

    • Reign of Darius
    • God word came to a prophet
  3. Haggai 2:11
    • God implored a prophet to go back and look at the Law Book
  4. Haggai 2:12
    • One bears Holy Flesh
    • But, touches bread, pottage, wine, oil, or meat
    • Will it be Holy?

Haggai 2:9-12 King James Version ( New Living Translation )

The New Living Translation is likely more modern.

It interjects itself.

It says I am talking about Blessings, yet it is anchored on obedience.

Verses

The future glory of this Temple will be greater than its past glory, says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies. And in this place I will bring peace. I, the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, have spoken!”

Blessings Promised for Obedience

10 On December 18 of the second year of King Darius’s reign, the Lord sent this message to the prophet Haggai: 11 “This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies says. Ask the priests this question about the law: 12 ‘If one of you is carrying some meat from a holy sacrifice in his robes and his robe happens to brush against some bread or stew, wine or olive oil, or any other kind of food, will it also become holy?’”

The priests replied, “No.”

Summary

So Bro here we go.

In evangelical, charismatic circles, we like to preach on increases and greater promises.

But, on the next verses over, God awakens the prophet to go back and look at the Law book.

Judgement & Discernment

As only a father, a King, can do.

He says Prophet, go speak to the priests for their sake.  And, also the congregants.

As the great pre-wrath teacher, Robert Van Kampen says :-

When I come upon a truth , it stands in judgement of me

Not, I it.
