Starting with SQL Server 2017, No more service packs

Service Model

Starting with SQL Server v2017, Microsoft will no longer be releasing Service Packs.

And, will instead release cumulative packages.

The delivery frequency will initially be monthly, but will move to quarterly as time goes on.

The projected version life cycle is about 5 years.

Impact

For those who plan their upgrade cycles based on service packs, you likely have to rethink your posturing.
