Took to Net

Took to the Net and found a nice post:

SQL Server Troubleshooting: Could Not Find Database Engine Startup Handle Error During installation

The relevant section is :

Looking at SQL Server Error Log
Even after following above method if you still get the error this means that problem is not with SQL Server installation something different is blocking SQL Server installation. The important point to note here with such error is you will see SQL Server installed but the services are not online( there might be few exception). Please check SQL Server configuration manager and Services.msc to check whether SQL Server services are present or not. If they are present but in stopped state you must look at logfile present at location.

Start from Services Applet

In our case, we were running the evaluation edition and it is now time to upgrade it.

The steps to remediate is:

  1. Get SQL Server Setup
  2. From the left panel, choose Maintenance
  3. On the right panel, choose Edition Upgrade
  4. In the Product Key panel, enter your Product Key
  5. In the License Terms panel, agree to the terms
  6. In the Select Instance panel, choose the Instance
  7. Review your choices and confirm in the “Ready to Upgrade Edition” panel
