Story Line
To me, the Janay Rice story is one of young, tested love.
In her own words, she met Ray as a young 14-year-old teenager.
Ray’s father, Calvin Reed, passed when Ray was one.
She, however, is from a two-parent home and Ray took to her parents as surrogate parents.
As often happens these days, her story is becoming a proxy tale.
In 2009, about 6 years ago, Rihanna endured the plastering of her beautiful face on TV.
She was urged and promised wealth and fame if she will become the face of battered women.
In time, it seems that she did not requite.
It appears that Janay is similarly disinclined.
Like Abraham, the father of faith, her heart seems to be well settled on the far lesser portion of family ( Self, Ray, and Rayven ).
Both she and Ray signed up for spiritually grounded counseling.
Their young family will benefit.
As I opened the good book this morning, I was led to a particular devotional reading.
It was written by Daniel Taylor and it is titled “Poverty and Wealth”.
The first paragraph reads:
We are poor in some way or other.
The person who thinks money is the measure of success suffers from a kind of poverty of the imagination and intellect as well of the spirit.
Others suffer a kind of poverty of the emotions, unable to intertwine their lives with the lives of others.
The most important blessing of my life is the prayers of parents, family, friends, co-workers, and loved ones.
I hope you add this young family to your prayer list.
In the days, weeks, months, and years that follow they will reach the end of self but will be replenished by the providential reward of intercessory prayers.

- Galatians 6:1 – Carry One Another’s Burdens ( Link )
- Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit should restore that person gently. But watch yourselves, or you also may be tempted
- My brethren, if any among you strays from the truth and one turns him back, let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save his soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins
- For every high priest taken from among men is appointed on behalf of men in things pertaining to God, in order to offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins; he can deal gently with the ignorant and misguided, since he himself also is beset with weakness; and because of it he is obligated to offer sacrifices for sins, as for the people, so also for himself.…

- John 17 ( High Priest Prayer )
- I am no longer in the world; and yet they themselves are in the world, and I come to You. Holy Father, keep them in Your name, the name which You have given Me, that they may be one even as We are. While I was with them, I was keeping them in Your name which You have given Me; and I guarded them and not one of them perished but the son of perdition, so that the Scripture would be fulfilled. But now I come to You; and these things I speak in the world so that they may have My joy made full in themselves.…
- I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me.

- I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire, so you can become rich; and white clothes to wear, so you can cover your shameful nakedness; and salve to put on your eyes, so you can see. Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest, and repent.

- Oneness
- Matthew 19:3 ( Teachings about Divorce )
- And Pharisees came up to him and tested him by asking, “Is it lawful to divorce one’s wife for any cause?”
He answered, “Have you not read that he who created them from the beginning made them male and female, and said,
Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh?
So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.” - In flesh and spirit they are his. And why one? Because he was seeking godly offspring. So guard yourself in your spirit

- Ephesians 5:15 – Book of Ephesians ( Children of Light )
- Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, … understand what the will of the Lord is. And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit, addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart, giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ.

- Court System
- 1 Corinthians 6:1 ( Book of Corinthians ) – Lawsuits among Believers ( Link )
- When any of you has a grievance against another, do you dare to take it to court before the unrighteous, instead of taking it before the saints?
Do you not know that the saints will judge .. are you incompetent to try trivial cases? .. to say nothing of ordinary matters?
If you have ordinary cases, then, do you appoint as judges those who have no standing in the church?
I say this to your shame. Can it be that there is no one among you wise enough to decide between one believer and another,
but a believer goes to court against a believer—and before unbelievers at that?
In fact, to have lawsuits at all with one another is already a defeat for you. Why not rather be wronged? Why not rather be defrauded?

Comprehension
Granted a little time, Rayven will ask each of her parents, where did my name come from.
As 1 they will answer …
It is a short and personal story; yet all the same entwined with the story of a sport I took a liking to, a team I played for and later it became the story of a young nation and its people who prayed for and with us.
