Introduction
Really need to be able to play music on this “HP/Compaq dc7600 Small Form Factor” PC running MS Windows 7.
But, all the love I am getting is the cryptic error message – “No speakers or Headphones are plugged in“.

Goggled for computer and devices are landed on:

Was able to determine the Audio Device Name & Manufacturer
Driver – Audio
But, the HP Site only has the 32-bit Driver and I really needed a 64-bit driver.
And, so went back to Google looking for a 64-bit Driver:
Searched for:
realtek high-definition audio driver for microsoft windows 7 64 bit
And, got a promising response:
Realtek High Definition Audio Driver for Windows 7
(32-bit, 64-bit), Vista (32-bit, 64-bit), XP – ThinkPad

Resolution
Downloaded and Installed Driver
Downloaded and installed driver. By the way, the name of file I downloaded is 8ga116ww.exe and it is hosted on Lenovo’s web site.
Thankfully, the same file should work on XP, Vista, and Windows 7; and the Lenovo site has both the 32 and 64-bit drivers.
And, as always chose not to go for the Reboot head fake:
Heard the speaker make a bit of sound.
Validation
Control Panel \ Sound \ Playback
Visited Control Panel \ Sound \ Playback Tab and we have a nice green check mark next to Realtek High Definition Audio.
Control Panel \ Device Manager \ “Sound, Video and game controllers”
Visited Control Panel \ Device Manger \ “Sound, Video and game controllers” and our actual Audio Device (Realtek High Definition Audio) is showing, as well.
Summary
This is not a big problem to diagnose, but in the olden days, I will have received more hints from Control Panel \ Device Manager:
- I will have known that one of the devices did not have the right driver
The error indicators that read “No speakers or Headphones are plugged in” and “High Definition Audio Device – Not plugged in” were new and unfamiliar to me.
Listening To
I will like to say that the first thing I listened to is my International Music choice – Janaat 2 starring Emraan Hashmi and Sonal Chauhan track:
Tu hi mera-Full Video Song-Jannat 2 ft Emraan Hashmi & Esha Gupta
It is a nice feel good sound to a twisted drama.
Don’t blame me; I grew up on this stuff. More on that much later.
But, I can not lie on my mother’s grave. And, so like Usher I confess to that sound I heard at the gym a couple of weeks past:
Omarion feat. Rick Ross – Let’s Talk (Official Video)

Thank god, I’ve been trying to find the correct driver all day thank you!!! Worked like a charm!
Michael:
Thanks for the appreciative feedback.
Please stay well,
Daniel
how about the HDMI “not plugged in”? how to solve it
Muny:
I am so very sorry, but never ran into that error.
If I have time and take the time to reproduce, I will reach out to you and offer some suggestions.
But, sorry I have nothing to offer at this time.
So Very Long,
Daniel
Thankyou very much been having the same problem for a week now. Sometime when i restardted the audio would come back but i would lose it in the middle of a video! I think soo far the problem looks to be good and resolved with the 64 bit driver downloads
Asad:
Wonderful brother.
I hope the brother is indeed resolved.
What is the make and model of your computer and what Operating System (OS) are you running, Windows 7.
Peace And Blessings,
Daniel
