Computer Associates (CA) – Erwin – Reverse Engineer (from script)

A couple of days ago, using “Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio”, I created some database creation scripts for a couple of databases.

The Architect tried using CA – Erwin – version 7.3 to import the scripts, but could not.
The error message that we were getting is:

A processing error has occurred.
Syntax Error – Line 0, offset 0

As we played around with the file a bit, we determined that Management Studio by default saves the file as UNICODE.

Using his editor, we saved the file as ANSI and tried importing the file (through Erwin) again.  That did the trick.

Moral of the story, Erwin does not recognize UNICODE.

  1. Thanks a lot. I have the erwin 4.1 and after selecting the script nothing happened… no error messages at all. Then I changed to ansi and worked 😉
